Barcelona admit defeat in bid to sign Cesc Fabregas

Arsenal look like they have won the battle to keep Cesc Fabregas at Emirates Stadium next season.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell appeared to admit defeat today in his efforts to prise the World Cup winner away from north London — but insisted they would be back to try to sign the midfielder next summer.

Rosell says there are currently no talks between the two sides over a deal for the Gunners captain, who was in the Catalans' youth system but moved to London at the age of 16.

"Arsenal feel very hurt by Barca," said Rosell on Spanish television.

"They don't want to listen to offers or sell and they are not putting the player [Fabregas] on the market.

"There was a strong dispute a few months ago and they have not forgotten it."

Barca had a reported £29.2million bid for the Spain international turned down last month.

Fabregas is under contract with Arsenal until June 2015, although it remains to be seen how he will react if he has to stay at the club for another season.

Rosell remains confident the 23-year-old midfielder will wear Barca's colours in the near future.

"He [Fabregas] will arrive, even if it is not now, it will be next year," added Rosell.

"We will see. One thing that is certain is that we will not go mad trying to sign him."
