Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has said he will offer Gareth Bale the same affection shown by his axed predecessor Rafael Benitez.

Bale is believed to be considering his future following the sacking of Benitez, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea already linked with a bid.

United are long-term admirers of Bale and have reportedly been put on alert by events at the Bernabeu over the last 24 hours. However, Zidane, who revealed he intends to play Bale in a forward three with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, went on the charm offensive in his first press conference as Real boss.

“I understand Gareth might be upset with Rafa leaving,” the 43-year-old said. "But he will get same affection and support from me as from Rafa.”

"He’s a phenomenal player. I'm going to give him all the support and love he needs to play well."

Meanwhile, Zidane says he is targeting the Champions League title this season despite admitting he is not 'fully prepared' to manage at the highest level.

"Good football has always been important at this place, and I am going to continue that," he added.

"It has to be offensive football, balanced, and nothing else.

"I have seen a team that is focused, happy and switched on and we're all happy.

"To win is essential at this club. We are in the last 16, and the target always is to win the Champions League and I will try to make that possible.
