The Australian consortium close to completing a takeover of Charlton want Harry Kewell to replace Karl Robinson as manager at The Valley.

The Aussies are one of two interested parties who have agreed a price for the club with owner Roland Duchatelet and a deal is moving closer to completion.

And they want to install former Leeds and Liverpool winger Kewell as boss. The 39-year-old is in charge of League Two side Crawley Town.

Kewell spent two years as Watford Under-23s coach and took his first steps into management when he took over at Crawley last summer.

Robinson is set to be replaced by the incoming owners even though he has guided the club to within five points of a play-off place in League One. It had been expected a takeover would be concluded in February and Robinson last week expressed his frustration that a deal had still not been done.

Robinson, meanwhile, is in the frame to take over at Oxford United.

The League One side have new Thai owners and sacked Pep Clotet in January.
