It was 20 years ago that Dennis Bergkamp made his Arsenal debut, and Arsene Wenger has praised the Dutchman as the signing who represented the club’s ‘first push’ into the modern era.

Bergkamp's £7.5 million arrival from Inter Milan in 1995 took the club to new heights according to Wenger, with the Dutchman scoring 120 goals in 423 appearances during an 11 year spell at the club.

“It was one year before I started here, so that shows you it was 20 years ago and it was one of the historic signings of Arsenal Football Club,” Wenger told the club's website.

“Dennis is a player who is admired by all the other players."

“He was lucky as well because when he arrived here, he had a bunch of English players, British players who were exceptional as well. He brought creativity to this group of very strong players and it was a good marriage.”
