Arsenal fans were quick to heap praise on Mike Dean after the match official in charge of Sunday's north London derby awarded the hosts an early penalty.

Dean has been accused of 'celebrating' Tottenham goals in the past and some Gunners fans were initially disappointed when the Premier League announced that he would referee the derby against bitter rivals Spurs.

In 2015, Arsenal fans even launched a petition to stop Dean officiating their future matches.

But it seems all was swiftly forgiven just nine minutes into the derby when Dean pointed for a penalty after spotting a Jan Vertonghen handball in the Tottenham area.

And striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired Arsenal ahead from the spot in the 10th minute, sending Hugo Lloris the wrong way from 12 yards.

It capped a blistering start from the hosts, who deservedly went ahead, before creating chances to double their lead through Aubameyang, Alex Iwobi then Hector Bellerin all inside 20 minutes.

And fans were in high spirits as they watched the early exchanges...
