Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira would “love” to return to Italy this summer, according to his agent.

The Uruguayan was signed from Sampdoria by Unai Emery in the summer of 2018 and made an impressive start to life in north London, quickly becaming a favourite among Gunners fans for his tenacious style.

However, a combination of injuries and lack of consistency have so far prevented him from kicking on at the Emirates, amid constant speculation that he has not settled in London and wants to return to Serie A.

Having fallen slightly out of favour towards the end of Emery’s reign, Torreira has regained his first-team place under Mikel Arteta, though he did not start in any of the Gunners’ trio of back-to-back league wins immediately before the coronavirus shutdown.

“Lucas had been in a bit of a bad mood over some technical differences, then he recovered,” Pablo Bentancur told Tuttomercatoweb. “And then this injury happened, fortunately less serious than expected.

“Today he is completely recovered, I believe he will be a market man.

“I will have to talk to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and he’s behaved great.”
