Rob Holding has revealed the Arsenal players were keeping track of the PSG score during the interval of their Champions League victory over FC Basel.

The Gunners went into their final Group A match knowing they needed to better PSG's result against Ludogorets Razgrad to top their group.

The French champions were expected to sweep aside Ludogorets and as such few gave Arsene Wenger's men a chance of leapfrogging PSG ahead of kick-off.

But the Bulgarian side took a shock lead into the break in Paris and again moved in front in the second period after Edinson Cavani's overhead kick had restored parity.

Angel Di Maria went some way to sparing Parisian blushes with a last-gasp equaliser, but Arsenal's emphatic 4-1 victory at St. Jakob-Park meant the Gunners advanced as group winners.

And Holding has revealed Arsenal's players had an idea they were on course to snatch top spot.

The defender, who made his first Champions League start following a summer move from Bolton, said: "We'd seen the scores as they were coming in so we knew if we kept doing our job it'd take care itself, which it has done with the (2-2) draw down there (at Parc des Princes) so we're happy to come top.

"We've got a great squad here. There's quality all over in every position and when you get your chance to step in you've just got to perform to the best that you can."
