Boyhood Arsenal fan Ollie Watkins says he is ‘over the moon’ after firing Aston Villa to victory at the Emirates on Sunday – even if his family might not be too pleased.

Watkins has spoken previously about his love for the Gunners and counts Thierry Henry among his idols but is now competing against them in the Premier League following his summer move to Villa from Championship side Brentford.

And the 24-year-old had little time for sentiment as he put Mikel Arteta’s side to the sword by scoring twice to seal a deserved 3-0 win, after Bukayo Saka’s own goal had given the visitors the lead.

“I’m not sure my grandad or uncle Baz are going to be too happy!” Watkins told Sky Sports after the game.

“They are Arsenal fans and I am an Arsenal fan myself - but I’m buzzing. I am sure they will love it really. I am over the moon.”
