Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil would rather retire than play for rivals Tottenham.

Ozil has not played a competitive game in 10 months, last putting on the Gunners shirt in March before football shutdown due to the emerging coronavirus pandemic.

The World Cup winner was when ommitted from both Arsenal's Premier League and Europa League squads under Mikel Arteta, confirming his exile.

Despite pocketing £350,000 a week, comfortably the highest-earner in the squad, Ozil was considered surplus to requirements and is widely expected to leave the club this month.

Fenerbahce want to bring the player to Turkey, while a number of MLS clubs are understood to be interested with Ozil’s current contract expiring at the end of the season.

One club he won't be going to is Tottenham. Ozil was asked during a Twitter Q&A session whether he would rather sign for Spurs or retire.

He responded: “Easy question. Retire!”

I'd suspect the feeling in mutual with Tottenham.
