Antonio Conte: Chelsea would have beaten Arsenal 'for sure' if Alvaro Morata had scored

Antonio Conte has admitted that Chelsea would have beaten Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium had Alvaro Morata finished off his chances, but insists he is happy with the striker's work-rate.

Morata could have had a hat-trick in the Premier League clash on Wednesday night, but failed to find the back of the net - which came just days after he also missed a host of chances in Chelsea's 5-0 win over Stoke.

Conte defended Morata after both matches, saying the 25-year-old is going through an unlucky period, but admitted on Friday that had the striker converted his chances, Chelsea would have taken all three points against Arsenal.

"The stats are that Morata has scored 12 goals this season and made seven assists until now," Conte told reporters at Cobham on Friday.

"The stats are good for the player. Don’t forget Morata is young, only 25, it’s the first season he is playing with regularity, I’m very happy and the club is very happy with the commitment of this player.

"He is a young striker who can become one of the best in the world, I don’t see any problems with Alvaro.

"It was a pity because if Alvaro scored for sure we win the game against Arsenal but at the same time that’s his job, and for a striker there are many opportunities to score or make a mistake.

"In the last two games he was unlucky but I was very happy with his work for the team and his commitment. He has to continue in this way and the situation will soon change."
