Andros Townsend can't wait to show his class for Spurs

Desperate to shine: Townsend wants to make the most of his chances at Spurs

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend is determined to make the most of his opportunities in the Europa League this season.

Manager Harry Redknapp has given young players and fringe members of his squad a chance in Europe and the Carling Cup and Townsend, 20, is desperate to force himself into the club's first-team plans.

"Going out on penalties in the Carling Cup was disappointing but there are six [Europa League] group games before Christmas and we've got to do as well as we can and see what happens in January," said Townsend.

"This season has been my first real chance in the first team, in the Europa League and Carling Cup, to show the manager what I'm capable of and what I can do.

"Playing in Greece against PAOK was an experience, coping with a hostile crowd. Now it is a chance to show what I can do, to the home fans."

Spurs play Shamrock Rovers at White Hart Lane tonight with Redknapp admitting his main focus is on Sunday's north London derby at home to Arsenal.
He said: "I've got both my eyes on that one. There won't be so many young fringe lads in the team this time, it will be a more experienced team for those who didn't play at the weekend."
