Alexis Sanchez & Mesut Ozil's Arsenal futures not dependent on Champions League football, insists Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger insists Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil's futures at Arsenal are not dependent on Champions League qualification.

Both players have been offered new deal worth in excess of £250,000-a-week but talks have been deferred until the end of the season as Arsenal battle to qualify for the Champions League.

The Gunners must beat Everton at Emirates Stadium on Sunday and hope Liverpool drop points at home to Middlesbrough to avoid missing out on a top-four finish for the first time in Wenger’s 21-year reign.

The odds are against Arsenal securing entry to Europe’s premier competition but Wenger insisted missing out will not make it more difficult to keep the pair, despite Sanchez attracted interest from a host of top clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

“They are part of the results as well,” he said. “Like I am. Overall, I think first of all they are under contract and secondly they behave like they want to be in the Champions League and like they want to be at the club.

"They don’t behave like players who are disinterested in the future of the club.

“Maybe one day I will be capable to speak about that, but I don’t question, at the moment, their focus and their determination because every game they turn up and give strong performances.”
