Fistral Beach can deliver this time

First class: Fistral Beach will be hard to beat in the Racing Post Chase at Kempton tomorrow
Simon Milham13 April 2012

The lightly-raced and consistent Fistral Beach can make amends for last season's disappointment and land tomorrow's Racing Post Chase at Kempton.

Sent off favourite at 100-30 last year, the Paul Nicholls-trained gelding unseated his rider at the second fence in the three-mile contest (3pm), having not been out of the first three in 10 runs prior to that.

This Grade Three event is one of the most competitive handicap chases of the season and 17 horses go to post, including last year's first and second, Razor Royale and Nacarat.

But eight-year-old Fistral Beach still looks very much on the upgrade, judged on his four-length defeat of I'm A Legend at Wincanton last month.

He is still relatively unexposed in this sphere and it is significant that champion jockey Tony McCoy takes the ride for the first time.

While Fistral Beach will be hard to beat, Tatenen could provide each-way punters with a good run for their money at 14-1 with Paddy Power.

Richard Rowe's gelding appears to have got his confidence back if last month's 16-length beating of I'm A Legend at Ascot is a guide.

Rowe said: "He was jumping out of Andrew Thornton's hands at Ascot. He's a really big, strong horse, so you would like to think he can handle big weights. He seems to like any ground and with a bit of luck on his side in a hugely competitive race, he should have every chance."

Belon Gale seemed to relish his first attempt at four miles and was foot perfect on heavy ground when taking the Northumberland National at Hexham in November.

He shouldered a hefty 11st 12lb in desperate conditions that day, so there is no reason to think that Howard Johnson's hopeful won't put up a similarly superb display in Newcastle's featured totesport.com Eider Chase (3.15pm).
