First trophy for Mancini

Evening Standard14 April 2012

Roberto Mancini, who has been linked with the vacant manager's job at Tottenham, won his first trophy last night when Lazio clinched the Italian Cup against Juventus.

Lazio drew 2-2 in Turin to win the final 4-2 on aggregate. Mancini, once an assistant to Sven-Goran Eriksson, said: "This crowns a super season for us. The lads deserve this after all the loyalty to the club they have shown through what has been a difficult two years, with all our well-known problems."

Juventus end the season trophyless and the match was coach Marcello Lippi's last in charge.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Juve levelled through goals from French striker David Trezeguet and Alessandro Del Piero but Bernardo Corradi and Stefano Fiore scored for Lazio in the second half.
