FA to probe new Emre claim

12 April 2012

The Football Association are to investigate further claims of racism against Newcastle midfielder Emre.

Disciplinary chiefs are to follow up a statement from Watford midfielder Al Bangura after looking into reports that he was allegedly abused by the 26-year-old Turkey international.

However, Bolton striker El-Hadji Diouf, who was also said to have been targeted by Emre, will not be pursuing a similar claim.

An FA spokesman said: "Following the allegations which appeared in the media of alleged racist incidents involving Emre, the FA wrote to El-Hadji Diouf and Al Bangura to ask them if they were able to provide statements.

"El-Hadji Diouf has responded and confirmed he does not want to pursue the matter.

"Al Bangura has responded with a statement and further investigations will now be made."

Emre is currently awaiting a hearing date after denying an FA charge of using racially-aggravated words and/or behaviour during the 3-0 Barclays Premiership defeat at Everton on December 30.
