FA confirm Germany friendly

12 April 2012

The Football Association have confirmed England will play a friendly against Germany at Wembley on August 22.

The match - already announced by the German federation (DFB) - is the first meeting between the teams since the 5-1 win for England in Munich in September 2001.

It will be the last friendly Steve McClaren's men play before a make-or-break run of five Euro 2008 qualifiers which will determine whether England make next summer's finals in Austria and Switzerland.

Germany were the last team to play England at the old Wembley when they won a World Cup qualifier thanks to Dietmar Hamann's free-kick in October 2000, a result which prompted Kevin Keegan to resign as manager of the national team.
