England frustrated by weather

13 April 2012

England's attempts to snatch victory in their final tour match were hampered by rain and resilient batting by the Board President's X1.

England declared their first innings on 418-7, but struggled to make the early breakthrough.

Andy Caddick eventually struck, but the game seems certain to finish as a draw.

After 21 overs the hosts had reached 68 for one with Avishka Gunawardena falling to Caddick for 10 after the openers had accumulated 38.

Ruwin Peiris remains unbeaten on 41 having comfortably seen off Caddick and Matthew Hoggard's opening spells.

The weather though seems to have spoiled the chances of an exciting final day's play, but whatever the result, England will be confident for the opening Test match in Galle which starts next Thursday.
