England blow as Giles faces six months out

13 April 2012

England spinner Ashley Giles was today ruled out of the rest of the Ashes series and the one-day series in Zimbabwe this autumn.

The Warwickshire left-armer will have an operation on his injured Achilles tendon on Monday and is expected to be out of the game for up to six months.

However, it is hoped he will be in contention for the winter tours of India and New Zealand.

Giles has been troubled by the injury for several seasons.

A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board said: "The ECB medical team has reviewed Ashley's case and decided that surgery now represents the best way forward for him."
