Elton: Goodbye Vicarage Road

Matt Hughes13 April 2012

Elton John today resigned as chairman of Watford because of his musical commitments.

The multi-millionaire pop star has been involved at Vicarage Road for 25 years, spending the last five years as chairman.

Speaking from his European tour, Sir Elton said: "With the huge changes taking place in football, it is obviously necessary for the board to be led by a chairman who will be able to devote more time to the club than I have been able.

"The directors will now commence their search for a successor and I am sure they will find the right person."

Sir Elton's friendship with England captain David Beckham, whose pre-World Cup party he attended earlier this month, means he is likely to retain some interest in football.
