Elena Baltacha shows she can take the pace

Going strong: Baltacha reaches quarter-final of the Texas Open
13 April 2012

Elena Baltacha stunned third seed Julia Goerges at the Texas Open to reach the quarter-finals of a WTA tournament for the first time this year.

The world No 61 had to come from a set down to edge out the German after a third set tie-break 2-6, 7-5, 7-6.

The Briton, who will play the winner of today's match between Aravane Rezai and Sorana Cirstea, said: "Julia plays a very fast ball and I knew I'd have to go for it a bit more."

Serena Williams, back after almost a year out of the game, has been named 28th seed for the US Open.
