Duo get England call

12 April 2012

Goalkeeping duo Robert Green and Scott Carson have been called into the England B squad to face Albania at Burnley on Friday.

The withdrawal of Manchester United's Ben Foster with a knee injury left coach Steve McClaren with just one fit goalkeeper in first-choice Paul Robinson.

McClaren took the obvious decision to promote Carson from Stuart Pearce's Under-21 squad while handing Green a chance to impress.

With Foster also out of next Friday's friendly with Brazil and the subsequent Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia, McClaren may opt to introduce either Green, who was impressive in West Ham's successful survival fight, or Carson, whose best efforts were not enough to save Charlton from the drop, at some stage against the Albanians.

His decision to overlook David James almost certainly ends the Portsmouth veteran's international career.
