Direct off the pitch not in the dressing room - Shaw's message to Dallaglio

13 April 2012

Lawrence Dallaglio was today urged to stay away from the Wasps dressing room and
concentrate on his new job as a director for the club.

The 35-year-old played his last match at Twickenham on Saturday as Wasps beat
Leicester 26-16 to win the Guinness Premiership title and give the former England captain the perfect retirement present.

Team-mate Simon Shaw believes that Dallaglio should now concentrate on finding the club a new stadium and not become sidetracked by team matters.

Shaw said: “Lol will have his work cut out with all the off-the-field stuff, including a new stadium, and if he was to ask my advice, I would suggest he tries to stay out of the dressing room and team meetings.

“It’s very difficult to go straight from being a player, to offering advice when you are retired. He has enough on his hands filling the stadium and getting sponsors on board and I am sure he won’t have time to come and yell at us.”

Shaw is not part of the England party heading to New Zealand today with a cloud hanging over their preparations for the two Tests following yesterday’s clash with the Barbarians at Twickenham.

England won 17-14 but captain Nick Easter and Aussie Justin Harrison allegedly came to blows in the tunnel after the match.
