Desailly: Zola was kicked by City fan

Adrian Curtis13 April 2012

Marcel Desailly today claimed Chelsea team-mate Gianfranco Zola was attacked by a Manchester City fan during a pitch invasion at Maine Road last Saturday.

He said Zola was kicked by a supporter as the Italian forward ran towards the tunnel.

The Football Association, who were already investigating the pitch invasion at full-time, could decide to get tough with City following the French defender's report of the attack on Zola.

Desailly said: "In the dressing room we were all satisfied with the result but we had to get there quickly because the pitch was suddenly invaded.

"I did not like that too much and Zola was kicked by one of the Manchester City fans."

The incident is unlikely to have been recorded by referee Mike Riley in his report but the FA are awaiting the results of City's own investigation into the pitch invasion.

A spokesman for the FA said: "We've returned to Manchester City asking for their observations and explanations."

It is unclear whether Chelsea have made a complaint about Zola's treatment at Maine Road.
