Denton aims for consistency

Scotland number eight David Denton is determined to outshine Wales counterpart Toby Faletau in the cauldron of the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.

Newport Gwent Dragons number eight Faletau was one of the stars of the Rugby World Cup as Wales marched to the semi-finals, but Denton made quite an impression on his first Test start, despite Scotland losing their opening RBS 6 Nations clash to England last weekend.

Denton said: "For me it's about being consistent. I've got to go out there and do the same as I did at the weekend and show I'm not just a one-game guy, which I've done for Edinburgh all season."

He added: "Hopefully I can continue getting us on the front foot and over the try-line."

It will be an intriguing back-row contest between Scotland's Denton, Alasdair Strokosch and Ross Rennie and Dragons duo Faletau and Dan Lydiate and Cardiff Blues' Sam Warburton.

Denton added: "I've played against Sam Warburton twice this season already. He's a good player, as is Toby Faletau. We're the same age and we played under-20s against each other. It's going to be an interesting battle up front."

Denton, who turned 22 last Sunday, is confident Scotland can improve upon their performance against England, where numerous chances went begging, and claim a first win in Cardiff in 10 years against a Wales side buoyed by their win over Ireland in Dublin.

"They've been doing really well, but it's a challenge we can come out on top of," the Edinburgh number eight added.

"There's a lot of strength in depth in the Welsh squad and they did well at the World Cup, so they're going to have their tails up.

"For us it's about going out there, playing our game and winning. It's small things. International rugby is about very small margins and it's just about getting those right. Hopefully that's too much for them to handle."
