Davies likely to face hearing

Bradley Davies should discover today whether he will be cited for an incident of foul play that could end his RBS 6 Nations season after just one game.

Match citing commissioner, Italian Achille Reali, has until 5pm to lodge a complaint against the Wales lock following his reckless tip-tackle on Ireland replacement Donnacha Ryan during Sunday's Six Nations clash in Dublin.

Cardiff Blues forward Davies was yellow-carded by referee Wayne Barnes on the recommendation of his assistant Dave Pearson, although replays showed it should have been a straight red.

Wales coach Warren Gatland admitted Davies was lucky to escape with only a sin-binning, and the 24-year-old's prospects of avoiding a Six Nations disciplinary hearing - possibly in London on Wednesday - appear bleak.

If Davies then lands a ban, it would leave Gatland without three World Cup locks for next Sunday's Millennium Stadium clash against Scotland, given that Alun-Wyn Jones and Luke Charteris are both injured.

And any period of suspension running to six weeks or more would sideline Davies from Wales' remaining fixtures after Scotland against England, Italy and France.

Teenage Wales star George North, meanwhile, has claimed he was disappointed with his form heading into this season's Six Nations. But he rediscovered it in spectacular fashion on Sunday, scoring one of Wales' three tries and brilliantly creating another during a pulsating 23-21 victory.

The 19-year-old's mighty performance was hailed as "absolutely world-class" by Gatland, with North now having racked up 10 tries from just 17 Test appearances. And not only did he help inspire a rare Welsh Six Nations win in Dublin, he managed it in front of watching 2013 British and Irish Lions manager Andy Irvine.

North said: "I had been a bit disappointed with the way I had been playing for the Scarlets coming into the tournament, so it was a great feeling to get that try as well, which is always pleasing for a winger because that is your job.

"It was a great occasion. It was only my second Six Nations game, and pulling on that Welsh jersey again is just an awesome experience."
