Daunting Aussies pile on pressure

13 April 2012

Australia today secured a five-wicket victory over the West Indies to win a record 13th consecutive Test match.

The triumph in Adelaide gave the Aussies an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

The victory will no doubt heighten tension in the England camp for the Australians' Ashes tour next year.

The series starts with the First Test at Edgbaston on 5 July and Nasser Hussain's men know they will be in for a tough time despite their recent 1-0 series win in Pakistan.

Today, Australia needed just 32 runs to beat the West Indies.

Although Justin Langer was out in the fifth over, caught by Ridley Jacobs off the bowling of paceman Mervyn Dillon, the home side reached their victory on 130 for five as Damien Martyn, unbeaten on 34, cut Courtney Walsh to the point boundary.

Adam Gilchrist, standing in as captain for the injured Steve Waugh, was 10 not out at the end and said: "There's no doubt it was a harder Test than any we've had this summer.

"We were up against it from the moment I lost the toss but the guys never lost their direction or spirit. The belief was there and that's one of the main strengths of our team."
