Da Matta looks for a lift

14 April 2012

Toyota team principal Tsutomu Tomita has apologised to fans for their troubles at the Australian Grand Prix but vowed every effort was being taken to ensure Cristiano da Matta and Olivier Panis are competitive in Malaysia this weekend.

Da Matta and Panis finished 12th and 13th respectively at Albert Park 10 days ago - two laps adrift of winner Michael Schumacher - and the youngest team on the grid are acutely aware how much work there is to be done.

"The first race of the season in Australia was regrettably not a good start to the year.

"I am very sorry to the worldwide Toyota fans but rest assured we are putting in our strongest effort to improve for the coming races," said Tomita.

"Our sights are set on a better race weekend than we had in Melbourne. The track should be one that suits our cars."

"We are under no illusions how difficult the next few races are going to be, but we'll be focused on the job," Da Matta commented. "We'll do our best."
