Curbishley praises Daggers

13 April 2012

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley refused to take anything away from conference side Dagenham & Redbridge after their 1-1 FA Cup draw.

"It's what the Cup's all about," he said philosophically after his side secured a replay against the Daggers through a John Salako equaliser with just four minutes to go.

"As a manger you go through various things in your career and I was a couple of minutes away from being scalped.

"Dagenham played absolutely fantastic today. I don't want anyone to take anything away from them. They were the better side.

"We have just beaten Manchester City and Arsenal and after those games everyone was talking about Joe Royle's problems and Arsene Wenger's problems.

"I don't want people saying how badly we did, or what we didn't do, it was a tremendous performance by them."

Dagenham ripped the form book to shreds making a mockery of the Addicks excellent home record - they have lost just once at home in 11 Premiership matches and that defeat was to in-form Sunderland.

"Nobody has stopped us like that," admitted Curbishley. "They were unlucky not to have gone through.

"That performance was on a par with what Sunderland did to us. We found it very very difficult and it's the first time in 10 years as a manager I have been up against this kind of upset."
