Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt has rejected fresh calls to resign from members of the National Assembly standing committee on sports.

He was called before the parliamentary body to answer questions on recent controversial issues such as the Indian Premier League's refusal to sign up players from Pakistan and the team's controversial tour of Australia.

The 71-year-old Butt, who has been widely criticised for his handling of PCB affairs, is reported to have slept through much of the meeting.

"Why should I resign?" Butt asked. "These are mere allegations against me. Not a single one is proved against me.

"I'll quit within five seconds if I am found guilty of doing something wrong."

Butt said he had already written to the International Cricket Council on the IPL issue.

"The disgraceful behaviour of the IPL has already been taken up with ICC because the international cricket body has a window to the IPL in its future cricket programmes," he said.

Butt also said it was up to the ICC to take action against Australia following the recent pitch invasion during a one-day international in Perth.

"We immediately wrote a letter to Cricket Australia and the ICC," Butt said. "It is for the ICC to decide on the matter."
