England will begin their month-long campaign to win the women’s World Cup by taking on India at Derby on June 24.

Heather Knight’s team will need to play nine matches if they are to lift the trophy, with the final at Lord’s scheduled for July 23.

England also face Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies in the round robin series – as well as reigning champions Australia, their opponents at Bristol on July 9.

Knight said: “Playing in a home World Cup is the pinnacle tournament for all of us. The team is feeling confident after an exciting 2016 and we can’t wait to get started.

“We are incredibly excited to get the chance to play in front of home crowds at every World Cup ground. Hopefully the next generation of England cricketers will also be there watching us.”

Coach Mark Robinson added: “Our goal is to be in the home dressing room at Lord’s on July 23, and we are preparing hard to earn that privilege.”

The four top sides in the round robin advance to the semi-finals, at Bristol on July 18 and at Derby two days later. Leicester and Taunton are the other venues used during the first round.

England’s poor performance in their last major global tournament, the World Twenty20 last year, saw captain Charlotte Edwards depart, in favour of an injection of youth. England last won this tournament in Australia in 2009, their first successful campaign outside this country.
