Stuart Broad has been fined for swearing at Faf du Plessis duringyesterday’s Fourth Test, but the South Africa captain has escaped punishment for his reaction.

In a heated passage before tea as England pushed for victory, Broad called Du Plessis a “f*****g idiot”.Du Plessis then appeared to collide with England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

Both Du Plessis and England captain Joe Root looked to play down the incident after England secured their 3-1 series win.

Broad was charged by match referee Andy Pycroft with a Level One offence for use of an audible obscenity.

He was given a demerit point and fined £2,250, 15 per cent of his match fee. It is Broad’s second offence in the past two years.

Buttler and Ben Stokes received the same punishment for swearing in the course of the series.

While a number of players on each side received ICC punishment across the series, the sides get on well and socialised together, as is usual between these two teams, when play was over.
