England pair Jos Buttler and Alex Hales to star in 'Home Run Derby' baseball event at London's Hyde Park

England cricket stars Jos Buttler and Alex Hales are used to hitting it out of the park.

"I know my biggest six went 111 metres," says destructive opener Hales.

But both he and Buttler will be trading in their willow for baseball bats as Major League Baseball's ‘Battlegrounds’ event heads to Hyde Park next month.

The ‘Home Run Derby’ will pitch England team-mates Hales and Buttler against each other, with legends of baseball Carlos Pena, Cliff Floyd and Shawn Green also taking part.

The baseball mini-game is usually seen across the All-Star weekend in America and has never before been played in Europe. The aim is to simply smash as many home runs as possible against the clock.

"Hopefully I can hit a few like that,” adds Hales, casting his mind back to his record 111-metre maximum. "It’s going to be fun being part of the Dodgers team."

The free baseball event will run from 5pm to 10pm. The sport will be mixed with street food and US music.

The park’s transformation for the July 4 MLB Battlegrounds showdown will begin after Justin Bieber headlines the main stage for the British Summer Time Hyde Park festival two days before. Kings of Leon resume the festival again on July 6.
