Cotterill's glory boys

13 April 2012

Cheltenham will be playing Second Division football next season after beating Rushden & Diamonds 3-1 in the Division Three play-off final in Cardiff.

It continues their fairytale run under manager Steve Cotterill, who six years ago returned to his hometown club and has transformed them since they gained promotion from the Dr Martens League in 1997.

Two years later they beat Rushden to the Conference title and realised their dream of playing in the Football League. This season they also reached the fifth round of the FA Cup.

A solo effort by Jamaica international Paul Hall cancelled out Martin Devaney's opener midway through the first half. Julian Alsop and John Finnigan sealed the win.
