Chimbonda bid accepted

12 April 2012

Tottenham have finally had a bid accepted for Wigan defender Pascal Chimbonda having pursued the French full-back throughout the summer.

The Latics have confirmed Spurs' "improved fee" has been accepted and Chimbonda has been given permission to speak to Tottenham.

Wigan have rejected several advances from clubs for the services of Chimbonda after he handed in a transfer request minutes after the last game of the season at Arsenal.

Tottenham hope to make the 27-year-old their second signing of the day before the transfer deadline following Steed Malbranque's arrival.

Wigan said the transfer would mean "the biggest fee Wigan Athletic have ever received for one of their players".

Boss Paul Jewell told the club's website: "I think we have been strong enough to hold out for what we think Pascal is worth. I had a price in mind all along and was never prepared to accept anything less than that."
