Calzaghe eager to get back in ring

13 April 2012

Joe Calzaghe will learn today who his opponent will be when he defends his World Boxing Organisation super-middleweight title on the Mike Tyson bill in Copenhagen on 13 October.

The Welshman was due to defend his crown against American Antwun Echols but the 29-year-old Welshman will now meet either Hassine Cherifi or James Butler, who lost an International Boxing Federation world title bid in his last fight.

?I?ve fought only one round this year so I?m very eager to get back in the ring,? said Calzaghe.

?This will be my first fight abroad and I?ve got to get used to travelling because I hope to be fighting in America next year.?

If Calzaghe maintains his unbeaten record, promoter Frank Warren is planning to land him a money-spinning clash with world light-heavyweight champion Roy Jones Junior next year.
