Brilliant Bedford claim award

Winners: The Bedford First XV
13 April 2012

Bedford have one of the toughest fixture lists in the country. But a rampaging first XV have stormed their way to 16 wins this season and they have become November Team of the Month in the Standard schools league.

Victories over Dulwich, Wellington and Warwick, who were dispatched 47-10, made it a marvellous month in the mud.

Coach Barry Burgess explained: "The boys have played outstanding rugby to become only the fourth school XV to win every "regular" season game. There has been a great intent to attack from all areas of the pitch and the boys have played with width and pace."

Among the outstanding players are England U18 back Jamie Elliott, scrum half Chris Smart, captain Sam Farmer and centre Will Dunkley.

Bishop's Stortford pushed Bedford for this month's award, the school having one of its best seasons for many years. St Benedicts are league leaders and notched a strong win over local rivals St Paul's 27-18 in the Cup.

The Bedford team will receive vouchers from FrontUp.co.uk, the rugby leisure gear specialists, who are partners in the league along with SchoolsRugby.co.uk.
