Bridge: I'm going places

Chelsea's latest signing Wayne Bridge today told Ashley Cole that he is desperate for his England place.

The 22-year-old warned his Arsenal rival he intends to increase the pressure in the fight for the country's left-back spot now he is at one of the Premiership's big clubs.

Bridge, who completed his £7million move from Southampton yesterday, told Chelsea TV: "Hopefully, I can win medals here and push Ashley even harder for that England spot.

"Hopefully, being at a big club like this I'll get an even better chance. It was hard to leave Southampton because I love the club and the fans. Everyone has been great to me, but this is a good career move. There's Champions League football and I think Chelsea are a club that can go on and win things and I'm looking forward to it."

Bridge, who was due to fly out to Malaysia to join the rest of the Chelsea squad for the Asia Cup today, added: "I am definitely glad there is no more speculation, it's dragged on for quite a while.

"I can now concentrate on getting to know the players. I can't wait to join the rest of the team and get into training with them."
