The latest chapter in Jake Paul’s boxing career will come against his first full-time professional boxer opponent, Tommy Fury, on December 18.
The YouTuber-turned-fighter, 24, has so far claimed four victories from four fights against two former MMA stars, an ex-basketball player, and a fellow celeb of the web.
Friday’s announcement of a fight against Fury, 22, pitches him against the brother of heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, who possesses his own 7-0 career record. It comes after the pair indulged in an developing war of words in recent months.
The bout will take place on December 18 at Amalie Arena, in the Florida city of Tampa Bay. The 20,000-capacity venue regularly plays host to the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL team with NBA side Toronto Raptors also recently occupiers due to Covid restrictions.
Under the slogan ‘One will fall’, the fight is set for eight rounds - significantly longer than Fury has previously boxed with his last two fights awarded on points after four rounds. Paul went eight against Tyron Woodley to claim a split decision win in August.
Showtime will oversee the production with the pay-per-view fight’s undercard to be announced in due course.
“It’s finally official,” wrote Paul on his Instagram. “Timothy had no choice but to sign the contract so he could finally pay his bar tabs, afford a shirt for the club, and stop living off Molly!
“December 18th in Tampa Bay, I’m changing this w****** name to Tommy Fumbles and celebrating with Tom Brady. Pucker up Timmy... it’s time to kiss your last name and your family’s boxing legacy goodbye.”
