Bolton sign Nigeria's Jay Jay

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is delighted to have snapped up midfielder Jay Jay Okocha from Paris St Germain.

The 28-year-old Nigerian World Cup star has signed a two-year deal at the Reebok Stadium and will link up with the rest of the squad when they report back for pre-season training.

Allardyce told the club's website: "I'm absolutely delighted to bring Jay Jay to Bolton.

"He is a player with tremendous ability and one of great experience at domestic and international level. He'll be a marvellous addition to our team."

Okocha made history by becoming the first Nigerian to play in three World Cup finals tournaments when he took the captain's armband in the Far East this summer.

But he decided to bow out of international football after his country failed to qualify from England's group.

Allardyce knows that could work to Bolton's advantage in the coming months.

Okocha has long expressed a wish to play in the Premiership, but it looked as though his wage demands would scupper Allardyce's plans.

However, the shrewd Bolton boss has managed to broker a deal for the gifted attacking midfielder.

Okacha was Paris St Germain's record signing when he arrived from Fenerbahce for £10million in 1998.

He first made his name in Germany for Eintracht Frankfurt between 1992 and 1996.

During that time he scored one of the most spectacular goals in Bundesliga history.

In the 87th minute of a game against Karlsruhe in 1993, he dribbled through the entire defence before beating goalkeeper Oliver Kahn to score what was subsequently voted Goal of the Year.

Now Bolton fans will be hoping he can light up the Premiership next season.
