Bees keeping tabs on Jay

Jay Tabb made his case for a place in Brentford's first team this season with an impressive-display in last night's 1-0 defeat by Portsmouth at Griffin Park.

Coming on as a second-half substitute, the highly-rated 19-year-old was a constant threat to the Premiership side as the Bees pushed for an equaliser to Vincent Pericard's 66th-minute strike.

Tabb linked up in attack with former Bristol City striker Peter Beadle, who was playing his second trial game for Brentford and is still in negotiations over a possible move to Griffin Park. Brentford's defence coped well with tricky Georgian international Georgi Kinkladze, a trialist for Harry Redknapp's side.

Before the game, both sets of players and supporters observed a minute's silence in memory of three club servants - Ken Coote, Brentford's record appearance holder; Pompey offical Gordon Neave, who died last week; and former Portsmouth goalkeeper Aaron Flahavan, on the second anniversary of his death in a road accident.
