Becks watches as Ferrero marches on

14 April 2012

Juan Carlos Ferrero survived two match points before earning a three-set victory over South African Wayne Ferreira at the Madrid Open.

Watched by Real Madrid stars David Beckham and Raul, the world No1 from Spain was a break down in the final set.

But he was inspired by a typically partisan crowd and took the decider in the tie-break to claim a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 victory and move into the last 16.

US Open champion Andy Roddick also won in three sets, beating Max Mirnyi 6-1, 6-7, 7-5.

Tim Henman's conqueror, Mardy Fish, gained a straight-sets win over Tommy Robredo, Roger Federer beat Alex Corretja and Younes El Aynaoui defeated Jonas Bjorkman.
