Beckham in line for Euro award

England internationals David Beckham, Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes are among 15 Premiership players nominated for the European Footballer of the Year award.

The list of 50 nominations, chosen by France Football, also includes Arsenal's Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and Thierry Henry, Chelsea pair Marcel Desailly and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Fabien Barthez and Juan Sebastian Veron, of Manchester United.

A panel of 51 European journalists will vote, with the winner to be announced on 18 December.
