Baddeley throws down the gauntlet

13 April 2012

Australian Aaron Baddeley threw down the gauntlet to the rest of the field at the Greg Norman Holden International in Sydney today.

On a day when Nick Faldo missed his second successive cut, 19-year-old Baddeley added a 68 to his opening 67 to reach the halfway stage on 11-under-par 135 at The Lakes.

Twice a winner of the Australian Open, first as an amateur and then last November on only his second professional appearance, Baddeley is now 36 holes away from becoming only the fifth teenager to win a European Tour event.

The fourth player to do so, Spaniard Sergio Garcia, was tied with Baddeley with nine holes to play. Welshman Phillip Price also got to 11-under after covering the first nine holes today in 32.
