Australia cut down Ireland

Reigning champions Australia ruthlessly scythed through Ireland's batting in the Super Eight encounter at Kensington Oval.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting highlighted his professionalism by inserting the World Cup minnows rather than allow his under-used batsmen time in the middle.

His decision was rewarded emphatically as Ireland were dismantled for just 91 thanks mainly to veteran Glenn McGrath and young firebrand Shaun Tait.

McGrath, the leading wicket-taker in World Cup history, and Tait both took three wickets each while John Mooney top scored with 23 for Ireland.
