New IAAF president Lord Coe admits Athletics faces a ‘long way back’ in order to rebuild trust in the sport, with the World Anti-Doping Agency due to publish its report into allegations of widespread doping among Russian athletes.

French police have revealed that the former president, Lamine Diack, is being investigated over an alleged payment of over €1 million to cover up doping offences of Russian athletes, while the IAAF’s ethics committee have brought disciplinary charges against four men.

These the son of Diack and the former head of its anti-doping department.

WADA will publish their report this afternoon.

“I’m just bloody angry,” said Coe, reports the Telegraph. “I’m angry about the position our sport is in today. I’m shocked and dismayed.

“These are dark days. We shouldn’t kid ourselves. It’s going to be a long way back to rebuilding trust.”

Coe succeeded Diak in August, and insists he is determined to ‘rebuild and repair’ the sport.

"The day after I got elected, I started a massive review,” he told BBC Five Live’s Sportsweek programme.

“Understandably, in the light of the allegations that have been made, that review has been accelerated and I am determined to rebuild and repair the sport with my colleagues.”
