Anti-Glazer protest to make it a black day

Manchester United fans plan to turn the FA Cup Final into a "Memorial in Black" for what they regard as "dark days" for the club under Malcolm Glazer's new ownership.

However, United supporters are expected to follow Sir Alex Ferguson's plea not to disrupt the team's efforts to beat Arsenal.

South Wales police, who have held talks with the fans group Shareholders United, say they are not expecting major anti-Glazer demonstrations before or after the match. But thousands of United followers are planning to follow

Shareholders United's call to wear black shirts and armbands and to bring black flags.

Given that the game is shown to millions around the world on TV, the spectacle could have a huge visual impact which will be striking to United's blue-chip sponsors and millions of fans across the globe.

South Wales police plan to have around 800 officers on duty.

A spokeswoman said: "We will have a significant number of officers on duty. We have had talks with the supporters and there is no indication of a need for extra officers although we do have contingency plans."
