Anderson named in England line-up

James Anderson

James Anderson will play his first one-day international for five months after Tim Bresnan failed to prove his full match fitness in time to face Pakistan at the Zayed Stadium.

Anderson, rested for the 5-0 whitewash in India last autumn, was preferred to Jade Dernbach as the third seamer alongside Stuart Broad and Steven Finn in the opening ODI.

Eoin Morgan returned in an otherwise predictable team, having missed the India trip - as did Broad - because of a shoulder injury.

England won the toss and chose to bat first against opponents who picked four spinners, including opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez, in conditions expected to favour slow bowlers.

Wahab Riaz also kept his place from the team which beat Afghanistan four days ago, alongside fellow seamer Umar Gul.
