Possibly the most average striker in the Champions League but when Liverpool conceded a sloppy freekick, Pirlo's shot deflected off the chest of Inzaghi and sent Reina the wrong way. Until then, Inzaghi had been a waste of space. But the goal gave Milan a 1-0 half-time lead and he clinically delivered the second.
THE LONE STRIKER

Help! Up against four defenders, but he needed more support. The wingers were crossing for one player. According to Ruud Gullit, Milan were worried about Peter Crouch and he finally arrived after 78 minutes, just in time to see Inzaghi make it 2-0. Kuyt's late effort at least gave a glimmer of hope.

THE WIDE BOYS
Pennant/Zenden
Liverpool had scored 14 of their 18 goals from crosses before the final. Pennant was useful, but Zenden was useless. When Rafa's chequebook comes out this summer, expect to see new wingers arriving. Zenden was subbed for Kewell after 58 minutes.
THE STAR TURN?
Kaka
Won the free-kick that led to Inzaghi's lucky goal, after clumsy Alonso tackle, but struggled to find space with Mascherano close by and snapping at his heels. It was a quiet night for the man who destroyed Manchester United twice. But will he care?
THE MISS
Gerrard
After 62 minutes, Liverpool finally break through with Gerrard clear in the box. He takes a touch and then opens his body to shoot with his stronger right foot, but it's weak and Dida saves easily low to his left. It should have been 1-1.
