If you've always promised yourself a visit to Kew Gardens but have never quite made it, take this chance to go on a special walking tour of the famous site.

Stroll through the frost-covered gardens with a guide to take a look at the wonderful winter flowers and sumptiously scented plants. It'll warm the cockles of your heart, the bits that weren't reached by all the festive food and alcohol.

The world-famous gardens at Kew began as a nine-acre site laid out by George III's mother Princess Augusta in 1759. Given to the state in 1841, the gardens covered 300 acres by 1904, which remains their present size.

Watch out for the famous landmarks such as the Chinese Pagoda and the Palm House with plants from the tropics.

Royal Botanic Gardens Kew , Surrey (020-8332 5622).
Dates: Fri 4-Sun 6 Jan
Tours begin: 11am & 2pm
Cost: £6.50, child free, concs £4.50 (to venue).
Gardens are open from 9.30am until dusk, around 4pm
