Former Coronation Street actress Tina O'Brien became the fourth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing after her Argentine tango failed to sparkle.

Clad in a rubber catsuit, she was likened to a "gothic version of Olivia Newton John" by judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The judges' scores left O'Brien and fellow actress Felicity Kendal at the bottom of the leaderboard.

But the combination of the judges' scores and viewer votes meant O'Brien and partner Jared Murillo were eliminated from the competition.

Her technical performance on Saturday night's show received a mixed response from the panel.

Bruno Tonioli gushed: "Gorgeous, you kinky kitten, you go very well with rubber, I can see you in rubber all the time! The most focused performance of the day, you were right in it, very vampish. However, it needs more drive on the walks of the tango, you need to use your feet on those hooks."

Revel Horwood said: "It was a bit stoppy and a bit starty. I actually was just a little bit bored throughout it."

Alesha Dixon added: "The Argentine steps that you did were really nice - I liked all the leg kicks but for me you were still a little lukewarm...But the acting and the role play was really well done."

Len Goodman praised the lifts, adding: That's your best dance to date, congratulations."

Bowing out from the contest, O'Brien said: "I've had the best time ever, I'm really sorry to Jared, I really wanted to go further in the competition for him. Dancing is now something I want to do for the rest of my life."

Last night's Halloween show also saw a guest performance from Alice Cooper.

O'Brien's exit came as former Cabinet minister Ann Widdecombe earned a standing ovation from the audience last night for her Paso Doble routine, but the lowest marks from the judges.

Dixon said Widdecombe's partner Anton Du Beke dragged her around the floor "like a Hoover", while head judge Goodman compared the performance to a "motorway accident".

Dressed in a Spanish style yellow ruffled dress and red shawl, the former Tory MP for Maidstone and Weald was subjected to a range of spins, drags and lifts as The Troggs' Wild Thing played in the background.

It was left to fellow contestant and EastEnders actor Scott Maslen and his partner Natalie Lowe to cast a spell over the audience and judges alike with their Viennese Waltz.

Their slick dance routine picked up three 10s from Dixon, Tonioli and Goodman, giving them 39 points and a place at the top the leaderboard.

An awe-struck Tonioli declared: "You created dance magic" while Goodman said it was "absolutely spellbinding".

EastEnders actress Kara Tointon and her partner Artem Chigvintsev also achieved a high score of 37 with their passionate and drama-fuelled Phantom of the Opera inspired Paso Doble.
